Lars Larson Show: Criminal Alien of the Week Report
August 29, 2019
It has been an interesting last week in the month of August when it comes to criminal aliens (illegal aliens) here in the Pacific Northwest states of Oregon, Washington and Idaho.
This week we take a look at for your Pacific Northwest radio listeners a illegal alien alleged drug smuggler who has been arrested by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) who also been charged with local crimes in the state of Oregon.
According to a U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Public Affairs August 26, 2019 news release titled “Illegal Alien with Active Warrant Arrested Smuggling Over 820 Pounds of Marijuana” on Wednesday, August 21, 2019 U.S. Border Patrol Agents in the Tucson Sector arrested on federal immigration and drug smuggling charges 11aliens, one Honduran, one Guatemalan and nine Mexican nationals, dressed in camouflage in a remote canyon southeast of Arivaca, Arizona.
A records check by CBP Agents of Guatemalan national Mario Felipe-Perez (ID: 707709; DOB: unknown), age 25, revealed he has an active warrant in Marion County, Oregon for burglary, domestic violence assault, and contempt of court.
The CBP news release also revealed the Marion County issuer of the warrant on Mario Felipe-Perez has been notified that he is in federal custody where he awaits extradition to the county.
Seeking additional information on the immigration status Mario Felipe-Perez, I contacted via e-mail on Monday, August 26, 2019 U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Public Affairs Officer Tanya J. Roman with the following questions:
Can the ICE Public Affairs Officer confirm if Mario Felipe-Perez is illegally present in the United States?
Did ICE place an immigration detainer on Mario Felipe-Perez during the time he was incarcerated in March 2018 on local charges at the Marion County Correctional Facility (MCCF) in Salem, Oregon?
If ICE placed an immigration detainer on Mario Felipe-Perez while he was incarcerated in March 2008 at the MCCF, did jail deputies release him without notifying immigration agents?
If Mario Felipe-Perez was released by MCCF deputies, did ICE agents take him into custody?
Has Mario Felipe-Perez ever been held at the Tacoma Northwest Detention Center?
How many times if any has ICE removed Mario Felipe-Perez from the U.S.?
If Mario Felipe-Perez has been previously removed from the U.S., what were the dates and locations he was removed from the country?
Does ICE Public Affairs know if Mario Felipe-Perez’s country of origin is Guatemala?
On Thursday August 29th, ICE Public Affairs Officer Roman sent via e-mail the following response to my preceding questions on Mario Felipe-Perez:
“Mario Felipe-Perez is a Guatemalan citizen, and a repeat immigration violator. On Jan. 23, 2019, Felipe-Perez was arrested [in] Eugene by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) during an interview with deportation officers. Felipe-Perez was transferred to the Northwest ICE Processing Center and placed into removal proceedings the same day. On April 23, 2019, an immigration judge ordered him removed from the U.S. and he was repatriated via ICE Air on April 30. Less than 4 months later, on Aug. 21, he was apprehended again in the U.S. by Border Patrol.” – Tanya J. Roman, ICE Public Affairs Officer.
ICE was not aware of his incarceration in March 2018 and therefore did not issue a detainer with the jail.
Detainers serve as a legally-authorized request, upon which a law enforcement agency may rely, to continue to maintain custody of an alien for up to 48 hours so that ICE may assume custody for removal purposes. Pursuant to ICE policy, all ICE detainers are submitted with an accompanying administrative arrest warrant or warrant of removal depending upon the circumstances of the individual case.” – ICE Public Affairs.
Guatemalan national illegal alien Mario Felipe-Perez is an example of the thousands of previously deported aliens that U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents apprehend annually who try to illegally reenter the U.S.
