Legislation requiring Oregon government agencies use E–verify offered in 2013 legislative session
During the 2013 Oregon State Legislature legislative session federal Employment Verification (E-Verify) legislation is being co-sponsored by Rep. Kim Thatcher (HD-25), Jim Weidner (HD-24) and Gene Whisnant (HD- 53) that would require all state agencies to use E-Verify in hiring all new employees. The legislation’s bill number is House Bill 2358 (See link).
Oregonians can do two things in response to HB 2358, state E-Verify legislation:
First, write a letter to your Oregon State Representative and Senator asking them to support the legislation;
– Find your legislators at: http://www.leg.state.or.us/findlegsltr/
– Write your legislators at: http://www.leg.state.or.us/writelegsltr/
Second, write a letter to the editor of your local newspaper in support of HB 2358.
– Locate your local newspaper at: http://orenews.com/web/members/index.php
In closing, Oregonians support of the passage of state E-Verify legislation could reduce the state’s 8.4 percent state unemployment rate by putting some of the 161,254 currently unemployed Oregonians and legal residents first in line for an opportunity to work for the State of Oregon when a state job becomes available..
